Our souls are responsible for our hearts in this book, alive or kinda-alive alike.

I must admit that I read this one because I didn't want to skip it before reading the one about Tennyson... the one I am positively thrilled to read. I just wasn't that interested in Chiara's story because, frankly, I'm not a bird-like, tiny woman and I suppose I resent reading about someone who is. That judgement is one of the things made apparent to me in reading this book, so well done, you, Mrs. Van, for helping me see my prejudice!

As always in reading a book by this author, I was pulled in almost immediately by likable voice and an intriguing premise. A non-ghost ghost has little hope of becoming alive again, to his chagrin primarily because of his burgeoning love for a wounded ("NO I'm not!" -Chiara) woman who uses 21st century sarcasm and emotional barriers to push people away.

Here might be one of my sticking points with this book. I know he had a full year of adjusting to 21st century life before the bulk of the book got going, but I had a hard time believing that someone from the Regency era would love so much of the spunk and spitfire of that little woman ("Stop calling me that!" -Chiara). I can't currently recall more of the Regency era ways that survived his time in the 21st century beyond wanting to wait to marry her and to court her properly. In almost everything else (I'm sure I'm forgetting something), he became completely adapted.

In all, Chiara's way with men had a well-thought-out driving reason. I loved how she sought justice, especially for children. I think I would have liked to see her interact with children in the book to show a bit more of that dedication.

I know I can rely on a book that calls me to read it at every spare moment when I pick up a book by Nichole Van. Even this, the book I read just to make it to the fourth in the series, stands out as a worthwhile dive into a wounded character.

Lightning Struck Brothers Maledetti Book 3 edition by Nichole Van Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

Although it can be read as a stand-alone novel, as someone who has read the previous two Brothers Maledetti books I couldn't have loved this book more. Nichole Van is a brilliant writer, infusing the characters with their own unique personalities, and creating a family full of people you can't help but love and root for as they face their life-threatening challenges. So many twists and turns in not only Jack and Chiarra's lives, but the lives of all of the brothers. I cannot wait to read what happens next! Once I pick up a Nichole Van book it is nearly impossible to set it down. Always the most page turning enjoyable read!!
Nichole Van has hit paydirt yet again with this latest Brothers Maledetti book! Chiara's story has swoonworthy romance that is 100% clean, as well as laugh out loud humor and superb storytelling to make up this amazing, unputdownable book! Although you don't have to have read the previous books in the series to enjoy this one, I'd highly recommend reading them to get further backstory on the D'Angelo family and their talents. Nichole Van is one of the few authors on my "instant-buy" list and this latest installment is another reminder why. Five stars just don't seem enough.
I did not think I wanted Chiara & Jack's story. I thought I wanted to go straight to Tennyson, but I was so very, very wrong. I saw none of the events in this story coming. (Well, Mafia bits notwithstanding. We all know once they're involved there's going to be guns and people shooting them. Kind of like the darker, adult, Italian translation of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.) So much happens in the Bros. Maldetti series. I wished for a movie version of Gladly Beyond (Book 1), and here in Book 3, again, it would translate so well. Everything is shown. Every thought and feeling is reflected in an action. The world building continues at a furious pace. So much is learned and so many new questions are generated. And Tennyson? The year that passes in this book positions him for his own story in Book 4. Nicole Van was right, (of course), we needed Chiara and Jack first, and what a fantastic continuation of the series it is.
For anyone looking for a scholarly, balanced review ... sorry. This isn't it. This is one of those, "I just read the best book and have to gush a bit" reviews ... which can be helpful too, right?

Anyhow, oh my goodness. How do these wonderful books continue to get better? Seriously! I absolutely adored this one. Wasn't able to dive in on release day due to illness, but grabbed it the first evening I was well enough to focus for more than five words. "Just one chapter" was the promise. It was, after all, 1030 at night. 25% later, I finally went to bed. Then read again the following morning. Then went to work. And then came home, to read even more... er, moving from 34% to complete. It was unavoidable! Actually, I kind of cheated by reading the ending first, so I have to read it a second time tonight to be officially complete -- and believe me ... it IS going to happen. And, yes- it's after midnight. Again.

Seriously, Ms. Van, thank you. I haven't laughed until I quite literally cried while reading for years, but Chiara's first broadcast, er, interview with Candy totally did it. Jack, you're absolutely (and endearingly) insufferable!

This one is such a keeper-and-rereader. The House of Oak and Brothers Maledetti series are all go-to books when I'm feeling down, and this one miiiight just beat out Timothy and Jasmine for topmost favorite - until the next one, that is. ) My inner Oregonian is so curious whether it's just coincidence that Portland continues to show up in both House of Oak and Brothers Maledetti -- do these worlds get to intersect at some point? And while I'm rambling, is Jack Knight-Snow related to the Knights in House of Oak? My mind waits with eager anticipation to find out!
