This is one of the two best books ever written about poker. Everyone from the novice to the expert can benefit from this book. A real must.
Very interesting tips from a much different time, but still apply, today. Great!
This book is plain and simple entertaining...full of intriguing stories interspersed with sound poker advise on a number of poker variations. A must read for poker enthusiasts.
A great story/book. Learning is what it is all about. Knowing tells, quirks and when to bet or not bet. Incorporating skills that improve your playing and discarding those that don't. An old but informative book.
I have purchased several copies of this book over the years. I bought the first one to sharpen my play and my wife's play when, in graduate school, we got together with our best friends (two other married couples) and played into the early morning hours (A total of $15.00 at stake--$2.50 each!). This latest purchase is a gift to a friend who is interested in the beginnings of our current intelligence agencies--NSA, CIA etc. No doubt there are better poker guides on the market No doubt Yardley's guide is the only one worth reading just for the fun of it. (See Yardley's "The American Black Chamber")
I enjoyed this....there was a good weaving of Herbert Yardley's continuing adventures in China following his experiences described in "The American Black Chamber"....along with many good tips/tricks about his evolution with the game of poker and several of it's variations. I used the app on my phone to read it. I recommend anyone thinking about this book read "The American Black Chamber" first.....I think it will help set the stage & help you enjoy this book that much more. Good reading )
this is a wonderful book for poker players full of great tips on how to play to win. It also is a wonderful book on anecdotes regarding yardley's education as a player in saloons around the world.. Yardley was a facinating chacter, one of the greatest code breakers and head of the fmous or infamous blackhole of American code breakers. He broke the Japanese diplomatic code. the book itself though used was in wonderful condition
